Being a woman, besides being a biological fact, is a cultural and
historical fact. That's why our final purpose is to show new perspectives
through the possibilities offered by the artistic creations. We want to focus
on the multiple ways of being, feeling and perceiving the woman at the present
time, under the look and sensibility of artists and creatives minds from around the
world with the respective connotations of their cultural and social
differences.
The Female Virtual Collective
Art-essence Project is an artistic, social and activist project created by the artist Katia Muñoz. One of its
main objectives is to contribute to the visibility of artists, especially women
creators and to create a network of information and promote the interaction between
artists about the theme of Woman.
The International Mail Art Project on Women is a multidisciplinary
project that begins with virtual calls, inviting creative men and women, to
send their postcards tapped to be part of the overall installation that travels
through different cities and being exposed in our online galleries.
This project began in 2010 and until now there have been several open calls with
different titles: "Women: Secrets and Confidences",
"Women’s Issues" and "Strangers in Paradise", the latter is focused on Women and Migration.
The installation has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions in different
cities from Spain, such as Barcelona, Madrid, Valdemoro, Castellón and Huesca
in Arteria - Contemporary Art Fair.
Women’s Issues, was the third call
launched from Colombia in South America, was exhibited at the Art Museum of the
University of the Magdalena, in the city of Santa Marta, and the Municipal
Institute of Culture and Tourism of Bucaramanga-Santander.
Strangers in Paradise, our fourth call, begins its tour at the Cultural
Center of Spanish speakers of the city of Amsterdam, Holland. The installation will
present more than 400 postcards received concerning feminization of migration sent by more than 100 artists.
Thus far, over the years of collaborative action we have received more than 1500 postcards with the participation
of nearly 500 artists from all continents. A true interaction between artists,
the entire installation is a female wall that tells us, sometimes loudly,
sometimes muttering, a compendium of senses and contemporary feminine
worldviews.

Guest artist:
Guadalupe Arango Ramos – Venidadeamerica http://www.guadalupearangor.com http://venidadeamerica.blogspot.com
She was born in Lima, Peru in 1975. It is a multidisciplinary and
interdisciplinary visual artist and independent researcher formed as a Fine
Artist in Lima, Peru, after that she diversified her education to the area of
anthropology doing a Master in Amerindian Studies in Spain. Since 2006 she has
researched the phenomenon of migration from South America to Europe. The
feminization of migration has been and is the main theme for her audiovisual
proposals in which talk about the idea of the "journey" involving the
migration experience that passes the human being when migrating and the feelings
as loneliness, silence, uprooting, among others.
This
time we have invited her to participate in the exhibition Strangers in Paradise in which we will see some of her audiovisual
pieces that will make a tour of the evolution of Arango Ramos´ artwork from
2007 to 2012, and have the opportunity to see her research and creative process
on female migration. As an anecdote, the
artist told us that many of her investigations were performed by continuously
attending to different cybercafés in Madrid. From 2007 to 2009 she explore
about migration in the right place, the place where many immigrants come
together to connect to their countries, to their families – roots and also to
buy some native products from their countries, to find a new job or a new room
for rent ad, or to start networking, It is a place of exchange.
Our
guest artist works from the visual arts as an activist (artivist) since 2006,
the same year when she won the first award of her career XIII Salon of Young
Art of the Community of Madrid. From 2006 onwards she embraced the idea to eliminate
the negative stereotypes associated with South American people from her
audiovisual work and allow the native may know what goes on the immigrant ´s
life. Madrid was the city that allowed her to learn from positive and negative
experiences, learn about the other, the other to which she belongs too, and recognize
the problems that immigrants have to pass day after day to fight and eliminate
stereotypes assigned by others.
This
time we have the opportunity to take a tour of her research resolved in
experimental audios and videos of three minutes to five minutes, stories based
on true events as Working Papers, Solea, Jet lag (the audio that represents her
brand venidadeamerica), Curling me up!, Kalanca (based on a conversation of a
woman from Dominican Republic in a cybercafé near the subway Avenida de America
in Madrid), Orfilia, Shut up, Diana´s Awakening, among others.
She
has exhibited her work in several countries, her experimental video Orfilia,
Shut Up! -finished in December 2011 - was selected for a premiere at The International Streaming Festival The
Hague, Netherlands in December 2011 and
Migrantskega Filma Na Poti/ Festival of Migrant Film “On the Road” en Ljubljana, Slovenia, in June 2012.
